3 Things To Do When You Get Locked Out Of Your Car
If you get to your car and discover that you are locked out, you want to do what you can to get in your car so that you can go home. The best thing you can do is call a locksmith and have them come out to your location and unlock your car for you. While you are waiting for the locksmith, there are some things that you should do.
Identify Safety Risks
The first thing that you need to do is to make sure that you will be safe while you are waiting for the locksmith to get to where you are. Your safety can include making sure that you are warm and dry as well. Depending on where your car is and what is going on, you might want to find a building or business to wait in until the locksmith gets to where you are. You can ask them to contact you when they get to your car so that you can meet them there.
Check All The Doors
Ensure that you check all your doors, including your trunk or hatchback, to see if they are locked. You may just fall back on habits and checked only the driver's door. Checking all the doors won't take you very long, and it can be worth it if, for some reason, one of the doors happens to be unlocked. You can climb in through your hatch if it is unlocked, and newer cars have ways to lay the back seat down so that you can get out of the trunk, so if it is unlocked, you can get into the rest of your car.
Doublecheck For Keys
Unless you can visibly see your keys in the car, hanging from the ignition, lying on the floor, or someplace else in the car, you want to make sure that you double-check everything just to make sure that you haven't put your keys anywhere else. You may have one place where your keys always go, but you might have put them somewhere else on accident. So, turn out all your pockets, empty any bags you are carrying with you, and check anything you can think of on your person.
Calling an auto locksmith will get you back in your car pretty quickly. In most cases, it only a few minutes for the locksmith to get you into your car. Just make sure that you do a few things while waiting for the locksmith to get there.
